After qualifying for the Super 4 round, they played brilliantly against Pakistan and thrashed them by a huge margin of 228 runs to script the history of the highest win margin against Pakistan in the ODIs. A complete performance with the bat and the ball was too good to handle for Pakistan. All the top 4 Indian batters scored fifties and hundreds and then a fifer for Kuldeep Yadav sealed the game for India.
The next match against Sri Lanka was a thriller. India won the toss and decided to bat first. The openers started well especially the captain Rohit Sharma who notched up his fifty as well which was 3rd in a row in this tournament. But then, Dunith Wellalage’s outstanding spell troubled India. Gill, Rohit and then Kohli got out in quick succession and India were reeling at 90 for 3. The spin web of Sri Lanka’s spinners made it difficult to score runs. A little partnership flourished between Sadeera Samarawickrama and Charith Asalanka but Kuldeep Yadav removed the former one to put India in a commanding position.
But then Dunith Wellalage and Dhananjaya de Silva stitched a fine partnership to put Sri Lanka back in the game. Ravindra Jadeja removed Dhananjaya de Sliva and then Kuldeep Yadav did the rest. Dunith’s fighting spirit was appreciated by all the fans and he was also awarded with the man of the match.

After defeating Afghanistan they somehow qualified for the Super 4 round. The first match against Pakistan was a complete disaster. They were nowhere in the match. They batted first and couldn’t pile up runs to put in a good total. Pakistan bowlers didn’t give any freebies to them and put them under pressure by picking up wickets at regular intervals. The skipper Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim scored half-centuries but couldn’t convert these runs into big ones and Bangladesh managed to score 194 runs only.
The bowling still made some efforts. They took a couple of wickets initially but once again the partnership flourished between Imam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Rizwan which got them over the line quite comfortably and they won the match by 7 wickets.
The next match against Sri Lanka was a good contest. They won the toss and decided to bowl. Initially, they had a decent start and didn’t offer too much room to the batters. But then, Hasan Mahmud and Taskin Ahmed picked up wickets regularly and in the end, Sri Lanka managed to score 257 runs which was looking like 300 before. In response to this, Bangladesh’s batting was a failure. Towhid Hridoy’s fighting 82 went in vain too and no other batter could reach the 30-run mark. The wickets continued to tumble and they were short of 21 runs from the target.
